You are doing exactly what I would recommend, replacing his need to soothe himself by you soothing him and him learning to rely on you to soothe him when he is upset, tired, hurt, etc.  You are doing a GREAT job! Ben (who was almost 4 when we brought him home) did it for 18 months, pretty violently, to put himself to sleep. Luckily, your little man is home much earlier (younger) and so I would hope he will do this for a much shorter amount of time.  You&amp;#39;re doing all the right things, rocking him, holding him, and co-sleeping.  You can try applying light pressure on his back with the palm of your hand (to stimulate his need for pressure), but for the most part, this was just something Ben did, and we had to wait it out.
