Yep…we’ll have our hands full…

As you can probably imagine we get that comment A LOT! Let alone when the twins are actually here! It is just funny to us….because, DUH Of course we will! My friends comeback to this comment is, “better than empty!” Pretty sure I am going to start using that one.

We have had lots of questions come our way on how we are preparing for the twins. Things have just started working out to where I can actually share our plans! But, let’s start with the material things! In my opinion, we need 4 actual BIG TICKET items to prepare for the twins…

-Stroller

-2 Car Seats

-Mini Van

-Their room stuff (beds, furniture, mattresses, dresser, etc- I’ve got the shopping list ready at ikea.com)

Unintentionally, we marked one of those items off our list this past weekend! I had been keeping an eye on this stroller online..used and new! We went on a date Saturday and we were in a town we don’t normally go to with a baby store our town doesn’t  have. We decided to swing by on a whim! and what do you know! They had the stroller at a floor model price with 10% off! It ended up being less than what could have gotten it for on Craigslist! We went back and forth about getting it, but ultimately, we felt it was a smart buy!! We don’t plan on a baby shower this time so we plan on getting these things ourselves anyhow…it’s just hard to spend $$ when we’re still trying to fully fund the adoption, but we have to take advantage of deals!

It has two seats and a sit and stand on the back! After church Sunday, we tested it out with 3 little Asians…2 of which we borrowed Smile Harrison would not test out the sit and stand part but Bates was willing! It worked!!

I also have had a change of heart when it comes to this contraption

We are going to have a few on standby at least! Smile

The van may have to wait until after travel just depending on how it all works out! We have an Explorer with a 3rd row, but it’s the 3 kids or the stroller…can’t fit all 4 in the car! Here are a few other questions answered:

For some reason everyone's natural reaction to hearing we’re adopting twins is “where are you going to put them?” Not sure why! We have a 3 bedroom 2 bath house with an unfinished bonus. We need to finish the bonus, but again can’t justify the $$ until we’re fully funded with the adoption so we’re not sure if it will be done before the twins or not. The twins will share a room. Eventually, we’ll move the boys into a room and Sophie in her own, but we’re not in any hurry. We’ll also use the bonus as a family room, guest room etc when it gets done! We hope to only be here for a year or so before we move into a more suitable house!! The only thing that would hold me back is the paralysis caused by the thought of putting the house on the market with 3 toddlers..we seriously might have to move in with friends or family while we try and sell it you know…cause everone’s going to volutneer their house right?!

Are you going to keep working? We contemplated several options and in the end through meetings with my boss and discussions as a family, I am going part time at the church starting September 1. This was announced yesterday. I will be able to spend more time with Harrison before travel. I will take 3 months off once the twins are home and then I will go into the office 9 hours a week (half day Monday and full day Wednesdays). I will work 8 “church hours” between Tuesday night, Wednesday night, and Sunday morning ministry time (when we’d be at church anyways and our kids would be in their classes anyway!) We are currently working to fill a part time position to do many of the administrative duties associated with my job and also to work alongside me during the ministry times!! I have a feeling this is going to be an amazing set-up.

Oh, and Harrison starts Mon/Wed preschool mid-August! So he’ll be in awesome hands while I am at work! Perfect set-up! We’ll figure out the twins childcare on Mon/Wed when they are home and we can iron all of that out…we’ll have 3 months to do it! There are a few options!

I will get to have a little time out of the house, the kids can interact with others and always know mommy’s coming back, and I will get to invest in the lives of my children and their peers! Yes, Please!

ALSO, Brandon has recently gotten a promotion ANDDDDDD it is to a location of a job here in our town rather than in Nashville (2 hours drive time a day)! He will no longer have to work every other Saturday. Several answered prayers wrapped up in all of that! He has already started hiring and making arrangements but will officially open his locations doors August 1st. I am so very proud of him. This will also make him more available to us should we need him quickly. This will also allow for him to help me get the kids to and fro on days that I have office hours. We never thought he’d be able to get a great job in our town, but God is good peeps… God is good!

Any other questions?!

I just have to say that I love your attitude about all of this :) Children are such a blessing, and I love the response, "Better than empty!" because it is SO true! We are at a busy time of life right now with a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 1/2 year old, but it is a wonderful busy and I wouldn't have it any other way! It sounds to me like you are the perfect family for these sweet little babies :)

HI April! It has been a long time since I commented, but I have been following your blog since before Harrison came home. Such a blessing to follow your journey.

My question is actually regarding the program Harrison was adopted through. I think you were a pilot family for the program? Has the program opened up to other families?

Blessings!
