because...
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....
we'll be enjoying much more of this(family time, which we LOVE)...
We aren't too excited about it being...sicky icky season...This picture is minutes after we got to our "surprise" appointment at our pediatricians office this afternoon.
As you may notice Harrison was pretty oblivious as to what was going on!! At our appointment earlier this week our doc said to discontinue the use of the inhaler Harrison was on. He said if we needed something we would use something that would work better. Well, we already needed something. Minutes after the photo shoot with the cousins we noticed Harrison's wheezing (which he had had some since this morning) was much more frequent and noticeable. We called to see what the office thought and they said to come in. This visit resulted in one of these treatments...
And this resulted in us going ahead and purchasing our very own Nebulizer for the house. We all agreed (us and the doc) that Harrison has consistent breathing/lung issues and that this is something we should have handy. The ONLY way we get through the 15 minutes is to sing Itsy Bitsy Spider OVER and OVER...with little to know breaks in between. Towards the end...me crawling around the chair and saying BOO!! really loudly worked too!! Toodles for now! We're going to try a warm bath and another breathing treatment before bed!!

Did the doc diagnose anything? Croup? Asthma? Bronchitis? Poor little fella! My youngest inherited my (very mild) asthma, so I sure do understand the breathing treatment yuckies. The worst was doing every four hours, round the clock, breathing treatments when she had pneumonia at 1 yr old. yucko!
I'm so sorry. We have to use the nebulizer with Dillan every so often when he gets a wheezing cough. I can't imagine having to do it every couple of hours every day!
You could try putting on a Praise Baby DVD during the treatment. This helps calm our little guy during his treatments. The bubbles are a great idea too but would be hard to do by yourself if you're already holding the mask on his face. :)
When you start something new with your child,I know it can be scary at first. Jada had to start breathing treatments a little before she turned two. This just became part of our routine. At first she was like Harrison and we had to make her put it on, but eventually it just became so routine for her, she didn't think a thing about it. Somedays she had to do it every 4 hours (usually the times she had pneumonia), but other than that, just once everynight before bed. She had to use her nebulizer every night until we moved her to Florida. Hang in there, everything will be okay! Praying for you and that precious little Harrison.
I am sorry to hear you have to do the breathing treatments, April! I have no experience with this and hope I don't get any anytime soon. But I do know that any time you have to "make" your child do something that is beneficial but uncomfortable for them is extremely hard for the momma!! I also know that you are doing a great job! We also sing repitious renditions of Itsy Bitsy Spider in the car and other places. Old McDonald works well for us, too! And you can drag it out for LOOONG periods. Wish you the best and keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers!
Mine had breathing treatments from about 8 months old till about 6 yrs, off and on. It got to be great mommy time, and he got used to it really quickly. Great reading time... don't worry, he'll get used to it!
