As sad as this is for us to watch and endure, we are just so VERY glad that he is here with us now. We get to enjoy the healthy times and love on and nurse him back to health when sickness hits. The doctor agreed that we can not keep him inside 24/7, so we're going to have to find the best ways to treat his breathing weaknesses. Tomorrow, he and Brandon will stay home while I head to church. If anyone else has found something that has worked for your kids and these kind of issue, please do share!

Hey April! Jolea also struggled with breathing issues and sinus infections when we first brought her home. I think we were in the dr. office at least once a month. We even had a case of pneumonia. We now use a nebulizer and it works wonders!
April,
I do not have kids but I remember when my sister was young - she had several asthma problems. She had a nebulizer that we used every single morning and sometimes in the afternoon as well to help her cope. I know that Harrison doesn't like it - I will be praying for you guys that it will ease up. On a positive note, my sister did outgrow the asthma and wheezing. About taking Harrison out and not keeping him in all day, my mom would take my sister out for only a hour at a time...for a week or so and then the following week would go a hour and a half and keep increasing the time until my sister got used to it and didn't need the nebulizer all the time. Hope this helps some!
Hey April. Matthew had similar issues when he first came home. The doctor took him off his inhaler and it became evident he needed something pretty quickly afterward. He also did the nebulizer txs. He did Pulmicort 2x daily and Albuterol every 4 hrs. It was pretty tough at first, but he started to understand that the treatments were helping him to breath then they became easier. He also came home in the month of November, so he pretty much stayed on breathing txs. through the winter months, but then when the spring, summer months hit, he didn't need them as much. He did start on Singulair when he was around 2 1/2, and still takes it today. He does still have what the doctor refers to as "reactive airway disease" , asthma and he also has always required frequent saline nasal spray and now uses Nasacort spray. We were also told to not run the ceiling fans in his bedroom while he slept, as this dries out his mucous membranes causing it to be more difficult for him to breath.
It was definitely worse when he first came home. Matthew was older than Harrison (17 months), he is now 6 yrs old, and for the most part a very healthy little boy.
Harrison is just adorable, and I am so happy for you all.
God bless,
Geneva
Nebulizers are so tough for little ones as they don't understand why you want to turn on that big scary machine and put something over their face.
Consider getting an Omron Microair handheld nebulizer compressor. They are virtually silent, can run on 2 AA batteries, and can nebulize 3ml of solution in 8 minutes.
Know that as little ones start understanding that the nebulizer treatments make them feel so much better, they start wanting them. Some wee little ones will bring their parents their nebulizer mask before they can talk to express to their parents that they'd like a treatment so they can breathe batter.
Is your nebulizer a fun shape or vehicle. Vance has to use one from time to time and his is a fire truck. It helps a little bit with the distraction that is needed.
I love seeing all of the pics of you and your adorable family ;)!
Hey...just wanted to see how Harrision was feeling?
