Monkeying Around!

Harrison hanging with Daddy!!
Harrison made himself right at home with his buddies @ little buddies birthday today!! As you'll see we were the only guests :o) Since Harrison was going to be doing a lot of monkeying around...I put him in one of my very favorite outfits today!!

Everybody enjoying little buddies birthday presents! Harrison mostly watched. He took the time to chew on a few things too! As you have probably noticed, Harrison loves his paci. They said they only gave it to him at the baby home for bed time. He puts his hands in his mouth almost immediately if the paci isn't in...and I would rather have the paci than his hands in his mouth with sicky icky season upon us!! So we're not minding the paci use in addition to bed time.

After cake and ice cream...we headed to the church. Middle brother road with us. I told him he could sit next to Harrison and he could help me keep him awake until we got to the church. We sang Itsy Bitsy Spider about 15 times and found that Old McDonald Had a Farm and Twinkle Twinkle did not work as well as Itsy Bitsy at keeping Harrison awake!!
Harrison did manage to fall asleep upon getting to church at 4. He didn't sleep long because I was trying to energize the kids. They were lacking in the enthusiasm department tonight and we've only got a few weeks before the musical. Brandon took Harrison and played with him in the nursery and then joined us again once it was time for Thanksgiving dinner. Harrison got lots of visits and chats as he sat in his highchair. He ate very well and was quite content until the end of the dinner when he was ready to snooze again.
We had a hymn sing after the dinner. Harrison slept right through it.
Harrison and Chester have become more familiar with one another as the days go by. Tonight we were sitting on the floor petting Chester when Harrison wiggled out my arms and I propped him up on Chester. At least it looks like Harrison enjoyed it.
We LOVE our video camera monitor. If we had to put a list together of baby "must haves" this would be towards the top! We can put Harrison in his crib and use this to anticipate his needs before he can make a peep (by seeing him move and wiggle). We also watch for some behaviors that we don't want him using while sleeping or putting himself into a deeper sleep after we rock him. He does this head banging and pulling at his hair thing and we go in and hold him or pat him and say, "Mommy (or) Daddy's here." We're not sure what the best thing to do about this is, but this makes sense for us and it seems to stop it!! And we want to do just that...stop it.

Tomorrow will be our first pediatrician appointment. I am glad we had it scheduled this soon because Harrison is now consistently pulling on both of his ears. There are also a few other things I want to get "official" notes on. We will wait on blood draws or shots for another week or two unless our doctor just thinks it's totally necessary. I don't want to have him home for less than a week and start poking him!!

Hey April - the head banging and hair pulling is self-soothing. Ben (who was almost 4 when we brought him home) did it for 18 months, pretty violently, to put himself to sleep. Luckily, your little man is home much earlier (younger) and so I would hope he will do this for a much shorter amount of time. You're doing all the right things, rocking him, holding him, and co-sleeping. You can try applying light pressure on his back with the palm of your hand (to stimulate his need for pressure), but for the most part, this was just something Ben did, and we had to wait it out. YOu're doing awesome!

Owen did the head banging thing and would even sit up and rock himself at first so we went in and picked him up and rocked him, and he (miraculously to us) quit after a week or so. You are doing exactly what I would recommend, replacing his need to soothe himself by you soothing him and him learning to rely on you to soothe him when he is upset, tired, hurt, etc. You are doing a GREAT job! I agree the video monitor is a MUST HAVE!!!!
