Promises to Harrison

Today, we are celebrating the fact that our authenticated dossier is on the way to Taiwan tomorrow. Our case worker is going to do some work in-country for a month. We prayed and prayed that it would be authenticated in time to be hand delivered by our agency case worker rather than coming after she left and have to be sent by mail. After praying, it arrived at the last minute this afternoon. Her flight leaves tomorrow. She called so excited to tell me. This morning, she sent me an email saying it wasn't there and was hoping it might come this afternoon. I had already prepared myself for the fact that it probably wouldn't since everything else hasn't really been too timely and that it would just have to be mailed. I wasn't upset...just accepting of it. When she called me late this afternoon, I was thrilled to hear that as of tomorrow, our dossier will be on the ground in Taiwan!!

A part of the dossier is this scrapbook for Harrison's birth mother. We included a personal letter in the front of the book, several pages of pictures with written information about us, and a final page with some promises from us to the son we'll share with her. A lot of these promises will be for all of our children, but some are specific to our sweet little guy, Harrison. It looked like this...

Some things we promise to Harrison

-We will love you always.

-We will teach you about the awesome God we serve and we will serve Him together as a family.

-We will spend quality time with you.

-We will protect you always.

-We will make sacrifices for your best interest.

-We will sometimes make decisions that you will not understand...but, we promise it's because we feel it's best.

-We will provide for you.

-We will create and maintain many traditions within our family.

-We will appreciate and celebrate your Taiwanese heritage.

-We will teach you all about manners - We think manners get you very far in life.

-We will teach you about compassion and grace and unconditional love.

-We will encourage you to be passionate about something(s).

-We will support what you chose to be passionate about.

-We will do our best to practice what we "preach."

-We will invest in the lives of your peers because they will have a lot to do with your future.

-We will sometimes let you make choices that we know are wrong, so that you can learn on your own.

-We will be your biggest fans.

-We are pretty sure we'll mess up from time to time, but that does not change the fact that we will love you ALWAYS!
